Potential Responsibilities:

Participation in the research and business project aiming to integrate blood RNA sequencing and multiparametric flow cytometry into the new product module for immune system analysis;

Coordination of research projects with hospitals in the USA (preparation of reports and presentation, organization of teamwork, keeping paperwork on the project, coordinating work with data, tracking deadlines);

Coordination of project team (biologists, bioinformaticians, designers, programmers);

Scientific support for the development of new platform tools (discussion of user requirements for the system, work with customers).

Scientific support for the development of products;

Work with customers (leading oncologists in the USA and Russia);

Track new scientific discoveries in relevant fields and monitor competitors’.

Requirements:

·        Ph.D. or equivalent in biology, medicine, biophysics, or other relevant fields;

·        English and Russian language proficiency;

·        Previous experience in scientific and analytical work is a must;

·        Desire to work in a biotech start-up and create a unique solution to support cancer research;

·        The ability to work in a team, creativity, and great communication skills will be a plus.

Responsibilities

You will work in an intersection of science and business for an international market. You will do market research, analyze existing R&D projects in the development of genetic and cell therapies, genome editing, and bioinformatics. You will participate in the design of new laboratory projects, both wet and dry, prepare presentations, and participate in negotiations.

Когда защитники дикой природы переселяют животных из одного местообитания в другое, они подвергают их риску заражения человеческими болезнями. Статья о том, как велик этот риск, и какие шаги следует предпринять работникам службы охраны природы, вышла в журнале Frontiers in Veterinary Science. В качестве примера авторы использовали практику переселения орангутанов в Индонезии.

Все три вида орангутанов в Индонезии входят в список «Находящихся на грани полного исчезновения». Сельское хозяйство, горное дело и другая человеческая деятельность уничтожает леса, где живут орангутаны, поэтому этих животных достаточно часто переселяют. Во время пандемии было отмечено несколько случаев, когда в дикую природу были выпущены орангутаны, долгое время контактировавшие с людьми без средств защиты. Эти животные могли быть заражены. Проблему создает не только COVID-19, но и, например, туберкулез.

Авторы статьи составили список рекомендаций, которые позволят минимизировать риски заражения животных людьми и наоборот. Среди них: анализ рисков, установление допустимых уровней риска, отслеживание патогенов, использование средств индивидуальной защиты и поиск альтернатив переселению животных.

Our exciting startup that uses NLP to "understand" and "engineer" genomes to cure bacterial and fungal diseases is looking for a senior AI researcher (NLP) to help us achieve our goal! Additional experience in biotechnology, genomics, and/or bioinformatics is highly welcomed but not required!

The work will be mostly remote but some office presence might be required (negotiable + fully remote work is possible). Therefore, applicants from any region are welcome to apply!

Degree requirements: PhD in Data Science (strongly preferred). Someone with an MS who has extensive experience in the NLP + deep learning field will be considered.

Международная группа ученых наблюдала за распространением варианта дельта в Западной Африке. С апреля по июль 2021 года исследователи секвенировали коронавирус из 166 положительных образцов из Бенина. Впервые вариант дельта детектировали в образце, отобранном 27 мая 2021 года. Ученые предполагают, что этот вариант пришел в Западную Африку в апреле-мае, через шесть месяце после его идентификации в Индии и через месяц после появления в Европе.

Попав в Бенин, вариант дельта быстро распространился. В мае его находили в 3,4% положительных образцов, в июне — в 37,9%, в июле — в 63,6%. С конца июля число случаев заражения коронавирусной инфекцией в Бенине значительно выросло. Авторы исследования объясняют это распространением варианта дельта, а также тем, что в настоящее время привито только около 1% населения Бенина. Они призывают уделить больше усилий и ресурсов программам вакцинации в Африке.

BostonGene Tumor Portrait test, based on integrated genomic and transcriptomic analysis, propels precision medicine into daily practice and supports physicians in actualizing personalized therapy for cancer patients. The test uses whole exome (WES) and whole transcriptome (RNAseq or RNA-sequencing) sequencing to profile the tumor’s genomic, transcriptomic, microenvironment, and neoantigenic properties.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in the research on oncogenesis and tumor properties integrating WES, WGS, RNAseq, scRNAseq, and Methyl-seq data analysis;

• Develop algorithms and analyze NGS data (WES, WGS, RNAseq, scRNAseq, Methyl-seq);

• Study the basics of tumor oncogenesis, participate in projects aimed to discover personalized biomarkers of therapeutic efficacy;

• Analyze tumor biology;

• Analyze scientific literature and expand the BostonGene knowledge base on oncogenesis/tumor’s molecular and cellular characteristics.

Requirements:

• Experience working with NGS is preferable, but if you have other bioinformatics experience and you are interested in NGS analysis do not hesitate to apply!

• Student or graduate with major in bioinformatics, biophysics, or other relevant fields;

• knowledge of fundamentals of immunology/cell biology;

• experience with scientific literature and scientific databases;

• fluency in English sufficient for fluent reading and understanding of scientific articles;

• background in experimental work in biochemistry /molecular biology is a plus;

• experience with Python/pandas, R;

• knowledge in machine learning is a plus.

Австралийские исследователи проанализировали взаимосвязь между потреблением кофе и снижением когнитивных функций у 227 пожилых людей на протяжении 126 месяцев. В небольших подгруппах исследовали связь между привычным потреблением кофе и накоплением церебрального Aβ-амилоида (n= 60), оцененным с помощью ПЭТ, а также объемом мозга (n = 51) на протяжении 126 месяцев. 

Более высокое исходное потребление кофе было связано с более медленным когнитивным снижением, более низкой вероятностью развития болезни Альцгеймера, а также с более медленным накоплением Aβ-амилоида. Не было ассоциации между потреблением кофе и атрофией серого вещества, белого вещества или уменьшением объема гиппокампа, оцененными с помощью МРТ. По мнению авторов, эффект связан не только с действием кофеина на аденозиновые рецепторы: вероятно, за него отвечают и другие компоненты кофе.

Эксперт Института Роберта Коха Кристина Доминго-Карраско после тренинга ВОЗ в Узбекистане по обеспечению качества тестов, применяемых на территории республики для диагностики COVID-19, предложила использовать тест-систему ЦСП ФМБА России (экстракция + ОТ-ПЦР) в качестве эталонного метода для выявления случаев SARS-CoV-2, сообщает пресс-служба ФМБА России.

Были проанализированы три тест-системы ОТ-ПЦР, имеющиеся в лаборатории Службы санитарно-эпидемиологического благополучия и общественного здоровья Узбекистана. Испытания «показали, что тесты, выпускаемые ЦСП ФМБА России, являются одними из наиболее чувствительных и специфичных на российском рынке и рынке стран СНГ (…) Наборы ЦСП обеспечили более стабильные результаты и меньшую изменчивость при сравнении данных детекции SARS-CoV-2», — прокомментировала руководитель ФМБА России Вероника Скворцова.

В России зарегистрировали новый лот экспресс-теста на антигены коронавируса GeneFinder COVID-19 Ag Rapid Test компании Osang Healthcare (Южная Корея). Это первый тест в России, для которого подтверждена в протоколе клинических испытаний способность выявлять широкий спектр штаммов.

«Набор определяет вирус SARS-CoV-2, в том числе штаммов PMVL-1, PMVL-31, PMVL-38, PMVL-47, PMVL-48 (“британский” штамм), южноафриканский” штамм hCoV-19/Russia/SPE-RII-27029S/2021, “индийский” штамм (или вариант “Дельта”), E484K, S494PhCoV-19/Russia/MOS-PMVL-1194/2021, 2019-nCoV/USA-WA1/2020», — сообщается в протоколе клинико-лабораторных испытаний, проведенных в НИЦЭМ им. Н.Ф.Гамалеи. Все использованные штаммы были изолированы от больных COVID-19.

Тест  выявляет N-белок коронавируса. Мутации в гене этого белка, возможно, влияют на пределы обнаружения различных штаммов. Так, дельта и другие варианты, вызывающие беспокойство, выявляются при более низких концентрациях, чем характерные для России штаммы PMVL-31, PMVL-38, PMVL-47, отмечается в протоколе.
